Somalia facing severe drought in 2022

According to WFP, the drought in the Horn of Africa has affected 13 million people.

While Somalia is also facing a severe drought this year, Save the Children estimates that 1.4 million children could be affected if the drought continues unabated. will face severe famine in the coming months.

The overall drought situation in Somalia is similar to that in the entire Horn of Africa.

The United Nations has called for immediate assistance to reach people affected by the drought, including in Somalia.

By July this year if there will also be no support beyond the current estimate, adding that the impact of the drought will be 50% of Somalia\’s population of 7-8 million. someone that will be affected.

The current drought in 2022 is expected to be reversed by the 2011 drought in Somalia.

With the rising cost of living most of the people are mostly weak and economically dependent on livestock and agriculture and both currently have no access to water.

What is the best course of action?

1. With the Somali government now focusing its financial and military resources on the country\’s elections, the disbursement of funds from the central bank and the national treasury should be halted as the focus shifts to drought relief.

2. Charity is an action taken by the Somali people in the face of adversity and they have been supporting each other for the past 31 years. There is also a need to raise awareness among urban dwellers to take part in the worsening drought in the country.

3. Institutions operating in the country facing a high level of alarm It is always important to remove Somalia from the situation of relief only when disaster strikes but it is appropriate to provide assistance at all times to the people and Governments to be more resilient in dealing with humanitarian crises, including drought.

4. Most of the traders in the free market importing goods should not improve their livelihoods as is the case in Somalia as a whole. The government will also reduce tariffs on imported food products to make it easier to help those affected by the drought.

5. To return to Allah (SWT). Also increasing the prayers and gatherings of the people with the aim of asking Allah to take away this severe drought.
